The potting shed of The Borrowed Nursery is a green oasis in Miami on the Gold Coast, surrounded by panel beaters, surfboard shapers and local manufacturers. Their nursery – come - warehouse provided the perfect industrial backdrop for the shoot. At the right time of day, the light that filters into the space creates a gorgeous moody atmosphere, and this was expertly captured by Cassandra Ladru Photography.
Layers of organic elements, mingle with vintage furniture. We took the bohemian style and infused the scene with a romantic grunge feel inspired by lovers trysts, wanderers, and off-beat casual simplicity.

These two have to be one of the coolest couples ever! Anyone whose brief for their wedding includes, 60'S BOHEMIAN POOLSIDE, is damn awesome in our book! We are in love with what Hannah and Danielle from White + White Weddings created for their special day, and were so excited when they chose to use some of our hire pieces, including our Persian rugs, Leather Moroccan Poufs, and Woven Cane Furniture, to complete the bohemian look.

Earlier in the year, we teamed up with some very talented members from The Bride’s Market to create a styled shoot using one stunning wedding gown, styled two very different ways. Spanish glamor with an industrial undertone, was the inspiration behind the first look, and we selected some of our favourite vintage / industrial pieces to help create a raw and vibrant feel. Our marquee letter “Love” sign, industrial love seats, vintage wooden crates, and potted succulents were used to complete this exotic, edgy look.
Mirra, in Fortitude Valley was the perfect backdrop for the second look, inspired by classic luxe styling. Our vintage glass decanters added an extra touch of sparkle.
We had so much fun styling this shoot, and felt so lucky to have the opportunity to work with such a talented bunch of people. We can’t wait to do it all again sometime!

Jill and Andy got hitched ..... wait.... you do know that's us right?!
Let me re-phrase..... WE got hitched in May of 2014 at the gorgeous Ewingsdale Hall in Byron Bay. The heritage listed building was the perfect size and blank canvas, for us to style with all the things we love, and create one of the most awesome days of our lives!
We both love the outdoors so we set up a ceremony space in the gardens beside the hall using our Mix + Match timber chairs, Persian Rugs and Lace Curtain Backdrop.
We wanted to create a relaxed, super social vibe for our wedding reception, so we filled the old country hall with all of our favourite retro pieces, creating a collection of different spaces. The hall was made up of lounging areas, mingling areas with dry bars, bar area, and most importantly allowing that sacred space for the dance floor. Our American-made "LOVE" sign hung proud, centre stage, and looked absolutely stunning when all lit up!
It truly was an amazing day! Thank you to our family and friends who made the day so special, and the amazing industry team, who we now call friends, who worked so hard on the day.

The idea for this dreamy sea-side shoot all started with an up-coming full moon. From there, a windswept concept started to take shape, inspired by spring evenings, and camp-outs under the stars. The team adorned a tipi with white linen and lace, and surrounded the structure with daybed loungers and low level dining settings, creating a backdrop that showcased the relaxed bohemian vibe against the stunning rising moon.
Drawing on colour tones from an ocean sunset, layers of deep indigo, and soft blues mingle with amber glass and gold accents, while delicate yellow and white florals add to the fresh spring palette.

We were stoked when we were asked by the lovely ladies over at A Darling Affair to style an editorial shoot for their up-coming Gold Coast wedding fair. Their wedding fairs are more like wedding festivals, with live music, food trucks, pinata pash-offs, fashion parades, and not to mention a heap of the very best local wedding vendors!
The night time festival is always held at Rabbit & Cocoon Arts Precinct which has a super cool industrial vibe. Their graffiti laneway and palette lined warehouse provided the perfect backdrop for our vibrant mexicana concept. which we created using some of our all time favourite hire pieces.

Our dear friends Katie and Adam were married at Graciosa, in Byron Bay beneath the most giant bamboo we have ever laid eyes on! Now these guys are one creative couple, with the groom hand-making the timber bench seating, and trellis backdrops for the ceremony, and the bride taking care of all of the styling, including florals and decorating the wedding cake. So we were honored when asked if we could assist by injecting some off-beat style into their ceremony and reception.
We layered a collection of our Persian and Kilim rugs down the ceremony aisle, injecting a punch vibrancy which contrasted beautifully against the bamboo backdrop. The rugs were again used at the reception to create the dance floor zone.
Our timber drybars and gold wire stools looked right at home beside the stunning pool, which was the perfect spot for sunset drinks and canapes.
We created an ultimate whisky lounge in one corner of the barn using our Hemingway Chesterfield paired with our Mavis Armchairs, kilim cushions and persian rug. Congratulations Faffy and Ad-Man! You guys rock and we wish you many more love filled days ahead! x

The Vintage Bride Magazine is one of our favourite wedding publications, and has always been a great supporter of Retro in the Rough. So we jumped at the chance when asked to style their 60’s Mad Men inspired shoot. The kitsch interior of Shucked Coffee house served as the perfect backdrop for creating a retro cocktail party feel. This shoot was featured in their Autumn Issue which has an amazing new look, that is packed full of inspiration, tips and useful info to help you create a unique wedding with a touch of vintage nostalgia.

The inspiration behind this styled shoot was based on the delicacy of vintage lace. The shoot took place within The Laboratory at Eagle Farm Racecourse, Brisbane. With the combination of timber paneled walls, laden with quirky racehorse portraits, and old world glamour, this unique venue has a stunning interior space, perfect for a cocktail wedding reception.
